With this year’s peak wedding season in the books, newly engaged couples can start looking ahead to the standout details that will set next year’s ceremonies and receptions apart. And while there’s still lots to love about the playful balloon arches and boho florals that reigned supreme in 2019, the upcoming trends look like just as much fun. Here’s what guests can expect to see more of in 2020, based on most recent trend-setting weddings held at Springfield Country Club, an award-winning wedding venue just outside Philadelphia.

1. Animal Inspiration

They’re part of the family, so it’s no surprise that pets have earned a special place in many couples’ big days. Not only can you plan on seeing dogs in the wedding party, but prepare to receive pet-themed invitations, sip on pet-inspired signature cocktails and pose for pet-centered photos. (Couples, just make sure your venue loves animals as much as you do!)

2. Dramatic Veils

Chalk it up to Meghan Markle’s 16-foot stunner at her royal wedding, but cathedral and chapel-length veils have made a serious comeback. The dramatic floor-sweeping silhouette works both ways, complementing voluminous ballgowns or adding drama to minimalist sheaths. Pearl, crystal or lace embellishments only amplify the effect. Top it off with another trending bridal accessory: the statement headband.

3. Mix and Match Bridesmaid Dresses

With large bridal parties the new norm, most weddings now showcase a variety of styles up at the altar. Not only do many brides encourage friends to pick different styles in the same hue, but also they’ve embraced a richer range of shades. Many groups now coordinate dresses within the same cohesive color scheme — a surefire way to ensure both visually stunning photos and happy bridesmaids.

4. Elaborate Seating Charts

No matter how many tables fill the reception space, guests need a heads-up on where to go. A style-minded list — whether it’s written on a repurposed mirror or displayed on a rustic wooden board — acts as both a helpful guide and statement-making decor. Elevate a black-tie ceremony with a custom acrylic sign, or use chalk pens to illustrate whatever vibe you’re going for on a plain blackboard. Another simple plan for embellishing your display: reposition an arch or floral arrangements from the ceremony by a table with escort cards.

5. Twilight Photo-Ops

While traditional portraits require ample natural light, some photographers have come up with creative solutions for shooting wedding parties outside at sunset, dusk or after-dark. The striking results prove it’s worth taking the time for a quick photo session by a glowing horizon or underneath the stars.
